A little about me

I am 56 and have been married for 38 years to my beautiful wife Karen. We had three adult children. Our oldest daughter was murdered on May 29, 2000 (see Jamila's Memorial on main page) We also have four grandsons and two granddaughters. We have one dog, two cats. I was employed with the Atlantic City New Jersey Fire Department for  25 years. The first 17 of those years as a suppression Firefighter, the last 8 years as a Fire Marshal and the Public Fire Safety Education Officer for the city of Atlantic City. I retired from the Fire Department April 1st 2002. Prior to the fire service,  I  was in the US Marine Corps during the Viet Nam era. I was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, raised in Cape May, Wildwood and Atlantic City New Jersey. I now reside in a suburban town 12 miles North of Atlantic City. My hobbies include motorcycling, music (mainly jazz), computers, skiing, boating and fishing.  I am involved with several fraternal and social organizations and clubs. I am a Past President of the Atlantic City Chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters.

This Web Page is something I have been wanting to do for some time.  I  ran a Electronic Bulletin Board System (BBS) for 5 years before the Internet became popular and all but killed the BBS's. I was a part of AfroNet. AfroNet was and is still to some degree, a network of the handful of Black BBS operators in the country. I had several names for my BBS but the one I had the longest was "Online in d'hood". The Name of this web page, (You People) was sort of borrowed from one of the AfroNet BBS's that was named u-people
